 It is quite possible that you do not have all the archetypes (which
contain both the pixmap files and the actual description of the items.)

 In some releases, these were included with crossfire, in other releases,
these were separated.

 Do an ls into the 'arch' directory.  IF nothing is there, you need to 
grab the archetypes off of an ftp site.  I don't remember the name of
the file off hand, however.
