Yes, but would it be hard to write a script which automatically makes
all items below floors invisible ? In my opinion that would be the
ideal solution. Putting things 'below' floors to make them invisible
seems such a hack.
As for visibility of items to the client, my opinion when writing the
protocol was that exactly those items which today you could get listed
by clicking on a square would have ITEM commands generated for them.
(Can you see items in open containers today that way ? Have to check,
but ITEM commands for them should be sent as well).
