New user questions

Basically, I'm trying to figure out the smallest setup we can get away 
with here - all we want is the client, we don't need a local server.
I checked the files that came with the source (may want to make separate
client and server packages) and couldn't find any mention of what uses
what, and I don't really want to start randomly deleting files.
