   I would not bother adding the force map save until the code
has been added to "recover" across crashes as there is no point
in doing so (won't gain a thing as you indicated).  If you think
the idea is reasonable I might be able to code up the "recover"
a map from a crash code.  I hope if there are any flaws that
someone can think of them before I go about trying to code it up.
