Before everyone gets too excited defining a client/server protocol
I suggest you have a look at the one which was beaten out on this list
a year or so ago. You will find it in the crossfire-0.92.1.client
directory as a file called (guess what) Protocol.
Java would be a good language for implementing the client as it is
currently ported to Solaris (that's the baseline), Windows NT, Win 95,
Netscape have java support in their SunOS netscape. There are at least
two companies porting to the Mac. Someone is doing an OSF port for the
alpha. Now that Microsoft have licensed Java from Sun (insert gratuitous
smirking), Java is pretty well assured of becoming widespread.
However, given the protocol, the client could be implemented in any
language. There is currently a C version of the client - is anyone using
it ?
