Mass of unidentified items ... if you collect sixty bows, it takes just
4 platinum coins to identify them, (all from the same manufacturer?),
and so the return on investment for selling them is much greater than if
you just collected the low-weight bows.
Search traps is nine directions, not eight. It includes the square you
are on. (On 0.93.7 the object that shows the trap is continually
re-created as the search finds it again, so remember to release the
search key.)
On smithery ... just "use_skill smithery", bound to a key, and you can
immediately identify smithed items. Same for most of the other skills.
No need to wield the item.
Inventory locking ... reason I use it is because I bind a key to
"dropall" to make object harvesting faster. I only recently found out
that I can inventory-lock arrows and bolts and still fire them!
