Body parts shifted playbalance some in the game - monster now have effectively
more treasure than they did before (their bodyparts) which are now worth a bit
of money.
In a supply & demand economy, they are probably overpriced (everyone sells
them, but I don't thing anyone would ever buy them).
Bodyparts were really added for alchemy, which generally seems unused. Adding
all the body parts also removed some of the cuteness of the 'orc chop', as
everything leaves pieces now.

bows can be very usefull (and crossbows) - especially if you find arrows/bolts
of assination. If you can then find a monster of that type which you can fire
at, you can gain a lot of exp at a fairly low level (go after a big troll for
example).
There are many maps where I have used a bow to take out something I could not
take out hand to hand. Don't underestimate the value of missile weapons.
