It can be fetched by anonymous ftp to ftp.ifi.uio.no, in the file "/pub/crossfire/crossfire-0.88.0.tar.Z". A new set of maps is also available in the file "/pub/crossfire/crossfire-0.88.0.maps.tar.Z". Due to the size of the changes, there will be no diff-files. There has been several additions since v0.87.8, many of these have been by different contributors (all of whom are on this mailinglist). See "crossfire -v" for a list of all who have contributed majorly with sources. Documentation of the changes since 0.87.8 is close to non-existant. Sorry, will try to improve this in the future... Unfortunately, crossfire isn't as stable as I'd wished it to be before the 0.88 release, but I gave myself X-mas as the last possible deadline. Please note that the local staff is doing system maintainance nowadays, thus if the ftp-site or the mailing-list is down, give it time. If you release diffs while I'm gone, please abide by the following: - Don't mail the diffs to the list, rather put them at ftp.ifi.uio.no and notify the list. - Change something in the file version.h, for instance #define PATCH ".4-xxx" - Add comments in the DONE file. - If it contains major additions, please encase it in "#ifdef XXX"'s, and put an appropriate "#define XXX", with comments, in config.h. I'll be back sometime early in January. Merry X-mas! -Frank P.S. Don't reply to crossfire-announce@ifi.uio.no. Use crossfire@ifi.uio.no. P.P.S. If you look at the file /pub/crossfire/crossfire.mail.Z at ftp.ifi.uio.no, it contains all messages up to this date (excluding yours and this one). > Is development still continuing on crossfire? Or has it > stopped at version 0.87.8? As announced a short while ago, there is a alpha 0.88 version. To keep it a bit out of the way of people who only want to play but doesn't like segmentation faults now and then, I've put it in the /pub/crossfire/beta/release directory (though I admit the 0.87.8 version had some fatal bugs as well). I haven't had much time to work on crossfire, but several other contributors have added lots of new stuff to the game as well. Unfortunately I'm leaving net-land for X-mas vacation the coming sunday... I'll try to get a fairly stable 0.88.0 and call it official no matter what before I leave. -Frank. I'll fix it and put up a new beta 0.88 version in a moment. Oh, and for those who don't know about 0.88 yet: ftp to ftp.ifi.uio.no, type "cd /pub/crossfire/beta/release" and see what lies there. The version number hasn't changed in a while, but I generally put up new versions each time I fix/add something. Beware though, this is a very buggy version! (reports of bug-tracking from core-dumps are always welcome) The reason I'm still at 0.88.0 is that I've still not finished a feature I wished to be in that version... -Frank. Could be that you have set the FONTDIR variable wrong in the Imakefile. Try to manually type "xset +fp " and see if that works. There are a couple of things that often go wrong with fonts: a) Some directory leading to or some file in the font-directory isn't world-readable. This is required as the X-server uses no special (root)privileges when reading the fonts and the fonts.dir files. b) If you are using an X-terminal, it is possible that the directory where you put the font isn't mounted by the X-terminal, eventhough it is mounted by the computer you've logged on to via it.
