Yes, but it can also be extremely frustrating for people using persistent
servers. If one character clears out the newbie tower, beginners, Gork's
Grovel, etc., other characters have a very difficult time getting higher
levels. At least with the previous maps, there was a HUGE world we could
get to, and this wasn't a problem. With the new maps, it's very difficult
for a multi-player low-level campaign. The new maps a cool, but they
aren't well designed for mulitple players.
Several of us have been having no end of headaches trying to advance with
the new maps. It's very hard for a character under level seven to get
anywhere after the newbie stuff is cleared out. Once you reach level
five, you're set; but what do we do in the meantime? It's tough (if not
impossible) to take out swarms of bats at level one or two. And, there is
no clear way out of the new maps. If we could get out of the new maps,
and into the old world, we'd be okay. However, there's no clear way how
to do this.
As an aside, the new keyboard routines seem to be more stable, but the key
buffering is causing some problems. If you attack a raas, for example,
and want to run away, you're hosed. About 25 key strokes have been
buffered for the attack, and there's no way to get away. Can this be
fixed?
P.S. - for all you NeXT users, I've been able to create a FAT version of
Crossfire! As soon as a REAL STABLE (tm) version comes out, I'll release
it to the archives.
