You could most of the font standard and then have additions be
downloaded as pixmaps, or you could extend what I originally did when
I wrote the client stuff, which is shove the font over in bdf format;
but before transferring, you could check a cache to see if the md5
value(cool checksum) matched, and if it did then not perform the
transfer.
