Hi
There are 2 easy ways to implememt unique quests.
1. Random Quests
A special person (perhaps a guildmaster in a guild) gives you the order to
bring item X to him.
This can be very easy (bring me the heart of an Orc) or very special. The
quests for the crowns
in lake city goes in this direction.
The problem is to make the quest unique. A easy way is, to generate a
"Scroll of Quest". If the person
gives you the order to get the orc heart, you get the scroll where is
written "bring orc heart to xy". Only
when you bring back the item and scroll you finished the quest. The scroll
must be "newbie item" so no
one can assemble 20 quest scrolls. Then they are unique.
When you add the title list i have written about to the char, you can make
unique quests and red line playing.
All what you have to do is, to give the char a title for every solved quest.
Now the person which gives you an
order can check the title list of the char and generate the next quest. This
is an very easy game scripting.
Special for starting chars you can give useful hints and items move him in
the game story.
So you can make guilds, where the player goes up in the guild ranking by
solved quests of the guildmaster.
The point is, that crossfire is an "open game" where you can play every part
on and on. Thats good but not always
good, because the player never see an end of his actions. This is very nice
at the game start but makes tired in the middle
because you see no "goal" you can reach. You have solved every map and you
play only to make all skills level 107.
Questing and interaction gives more in player interaction too.
2. Unique quest maps.
This map should have an teleporter which checks the title list. Is the title
you cna reach in this quest in the list, the
char has solved the quest and can not play again.
A very simple example of it is "Kung Fu", the tv series. In the trailer, you
see Caine branding his arms with the dragons
tatoo after he was a shaolin priest. After this, he can't "start the temple
again". He has solved his "quest".
Same in game. If you become in game a shaolin priest and solved the quest,
you should not make it again, mean
playing the map again.
The sides effect to game & playing are low, if you give the player anough
other maps and don't hide to many unique
or needed items in the quest maps.
Believe me when i say, that the title is enough you should reach in this
kind of quest. The player don't want another "xy super
sword". The title is what he want.
