With the future release of v1.5 it's now time to improve the online presence of Crossfire.
One way of doing this is to announce Crossfire on game portal sites and update any websites that has information on Crossfire.
Some additional random thoughts about some PR things for a new release:
- Make sure we update the news items on freshmeat and sourceforge. I notice that 1.4 never got a news item on sourceforge. Those news items generate *heaps* of traffic. When I do releases for clusterit, I get hammered from that news item on freshmeat.
- We should write up a brief "press release" about crossfire, and what new and wonderful features we have added since 1.4. Something simple that describes the game, and the highlights of new features. I can help with this.
- Perhaps we should look and find some alternate places to send the release.. like slashdot, or some of those linux gamedev sites. See the additional links below.
- Do we have anything like an anniversary date coming up we could cash in on?
Anyone know what the anniversary of crossfire would be?
NOTE: Approximately 16-Feb-92 - What about a random silly statistic.. like "first ever graphical multi-player open source RPG"
Anything else people could think of? I'm just trying to come up with some ways to get a little more web exposure for our little game. I think we have an opportunity to cash in on being a real opensource everquest alternative for linux people, we should drum up that angle.
