Crossfire Map Editor Installation - Windows XP

NOTE: Now that the Map Editor requires JRE 1.6.0, this page is now deprecated - see the updated Windows XP or Windows 7 pages.

The CFJavaEditor is used for creating or editing maps for Crossfire.

Java - Download & Installation

  1. Visit http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp to download the JRE (Java Run-time Environment)

  2. Read the license agreement and click on Accept if you agree to the terms

  3. Scroll down to and click on Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language link

  4. Wait for the file to download

  5. Locate and double click on the JRE install icon or use the open file feature of your browser

  6. Various splash and intro screens will appear momentarily

  7. Read through the J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 5 - License Agreement, if you agree, click on the I accept and then click on Next

  8. Go with the Typical installation unless you have reason otherwise, and click on Next

  9. Wait for the JRE to finish installing, this could take a couple of minutes

  10. When the installation is complete, click on Finish

The Java Editor (CF Java Editor) succeeded CF Edit; CF Java Editor is in the process of being replaced by Gridarta.

CFJavaEditor - Download & Installation

  1. Download the Crossfire Map Editor

  2. Locate the CFJavaEditor executable jar file and double click on it to launch the map editor


Map Set - Download via SVN

Visit the "SVN via Windows" page to find out how to install a SVN client so that you can ensure you have the latest copies of the maps to work with, and how you can make you maps available or part of the official world map distribution.


CFJavaEditor - View Existing Map(s)

To edit/modify or view an existing map (and assuming you have used TortoiseSVN to obtain the map set)

  1. Click on Open (or use Ctrl-O)

  2. Navigate the folders until you find the maps directory, open the appropriate directories until you find the map you want to view - double click to open it

  3. Make your updates, save the map and test the map on a local server
