Crossfire 0.92.1 Announcement
This release is actually pretty substantial. The main changes actually come from Brian Thomas. These are the 2 magic system (seperation of clerical and mage magic, with the addition of the Power stat), and a greatly expanded skill system, with several experience categories.
As of this writing, I am pretty sure that I have the latest code the Brian has released merged into the release.
That said, there is also a warning: I have not extensively tested the code - Brian has said it is quite stable, and I have no reason to doubt that. But since I have also made changes (mostly bug fixes, but some improvements), I can not say for certain that this is a bug free release.
This release took much longer than I expected to get out. I would have liked to have better tested it, but that would probably have delayed it even more. But also looking through it, there are a lot of changes.
I can not say for sure if upgrading from 0.92.0 to 0.92.1 is a great idea, reliability wise. IF you want the latest code, with new skills and new gods, this is what you should use. But you may want to wait for 0.92.2 for this to get playtested out more (and balanced and bug fixed.)
I have not had the time to make a diff file from 0.92.0. There should not be anything hard about doing it (I might get around to it in a few days), but there are a lot of source changes, along with some new files.
So on to the real release information:
There are three separate tar archives in the Crossfire 0.92.1 distribution:
sums (bsd) filename
- 17211 655 crossfire-0.92.1.arch.tar.gz
- 19650 71 crossfire-0.92.1.client.tar.gz
- 39795 1718 crossfire-0.92.1.maps.tar.gz
- 02815 1420 crossfire-0.92.1.tar.gz
crossfire-0.92.1.tar.gz contains the actual program code. See the CHANGES file in this archive for everything that has changed. It also contains pre-made archetypes and image files, so that the crossfire-0.92.1.arch.tar.gz file is not needed.
crossfire-0.92.1.arch.tar.gz contains the unpacked archetype (arch) directory. This file is not needed if you just want to compile the games and play. The contents of this archive is used to create the archetypes, bmaps, font, and X PixMap (XPM) files. You only need it if you want to add new archetypes, mess around with the existing ones, or recreate some files. There are a few archetypes added, and a few were changed. Nothing major, but if you are doing work with archetypes, you should get this file.
crossfire-0.92.1.maps.tar.gz: Contains all the maps. If you have an older version, you probably don't need to update - only thing changed was a bugfix or to. I also re-packaged it because I noticed that for 0.92.0, I included the maps.old file (none of those maps are used as of now), so I figure I should make a new one without that, just to save some space.
crossfire-0.92.1.client.tar.gz: This contains the new client server code. I don't know if any servers are actually supporting this. The only real changes to the client was support of the Pow and Grace stats.
FOR FIRST TIME USERS: You only need 2 files out of all of the above, the crossfire-0.92.1.tar.gz and the crossfire-0.92.1.maps.tar.gz files -
you can ignore the other files.
Crossfire is avaible on the following ftp sites
