Crossfire 0.92.4 Announcement

There is not that much added functionality in 0.92.4. It is largely a patch release. It seems pretty stable - I have played it for numerous hours without a crash. Look at the CHANGES file in crossfire-0.92.4.tar.gz for a detailed list.

So on to the real release information:

There are six separate tar archives in the Crossfire 0.92.4 distribution:

crossfire-0.92.4.tar.gz contains the actual program code. See the CHANGES file in this archive for everything that has changed. It also contains pre-made archetypes and image files, so that the crossfire-0.92.4.arch.tar.gz file is not needed.

crossfire-0.92.4.arch.tar.gz contains the unpacked archetype (arch) directory. This file is not needed if you just want to compile the games and play. The contents of this archive is used to create the archetypes, bmaps, font, and X PixMap (XPM) files. You only need it if you want to add new archetypes, mess around with the existing ones, or recreate some files. There are very few changes - I think the only arch the changed with blindness.

crossfire-0.92.4.maps.tar.gz contains all the maps. Only a few changes - added detect curse and detect magic spell casting altars to a few shops and some cleanup for xpm displays.

crossfire-0.92.4.client.tar.gz contains code for the new client. This is developmental code. While it is usuable, it is not complete and very few (none?) servers support the model. You will need the crossfire-0.92.4.eutl.tar.gz file (older version should also work.)

crossfire-0.92.4.eutl.tar.gz is just a repackaged version of the eutl library. The eutl library is used in the new client/server mode. I just made a minor change to make it compile under Solaris 2.5.

crossfire-0.92.3-0.92.4.diff.gz is a source code patch. This does not include files that can be regenerated automatically (Archetypes, bitmaps, pixmaps.)

FOR FIRST TIME USERS: You will need the crossfire-0.92.4.tar.gz and crossfire-0.92.4.maps.tar.gz file. You do not need the crossfire-0.92.4.arch.tar.gz or crossfire-0.92.4.client.tar.gz file.

Note: The ftp.i.net site has two crossfire directories - /pub/crossfire and /pub/crossfire2 The new source is in the /pub/crossfire2 directory.
